There are so many things business owners think about on a day-to-day basis. Everything on the list, big or little, is important to the work getting the done, the customers being satisfied, the employees giving their best, With all of this going on, maybe you’ve never wondered about the right time to sell your business. This certainly wouldn’t be surprising, especially if you are years and years away from typical retirement age.
If you stop a moment and consider the words, “when is the right time to sell,” what do you actually think about? That day in 10, 15, 20 years, when you walk out the doors of the business for the very last time….to do what then? Or, how does it turn out; what do you have to show for your life-long work? Okay, so, thinking about this is overwhelming.
What is a better way to think about this idea? Perhaps it’s not when is the right time, but what do I want it to look like when it is the right time? And once you know this, what’s the next question? What do I need to do to make sure that everything is the way I want it at that right time?
While selling the business isn’t in your immediate goals, we all know time travels to fast. The best way to be ready when it does arrive, is to think about and actively work on it NOW. The best way to do that is to work on identifying and removing barriers to your success, improving your finances, improving your operations and increasing the value of your business for that day that may be way off in the future.
